I picked up the SWL bug in the 70's with my fathers shortwave radios but didn't get a ham ticket until 1997 as a tech and played a little on VHF and 6m. After many years of inactivity I passed the General exam in March 2014 then passed the Extra Class on 09JAN15.
I currently run a Yaesu FTdx1200 with a LDG AT-600 Pro II tuner and a Yaesu FT-847 with a LDG YT-847 autotuner, an Ameritron ALS-600 amp with 10M mod and ALS-600SP, a classic Panasonic RF-4900 and Kenwood R-5000 receiver and SP-430 speaker for SWL and assorted other things in the shack powered by an Yaesu FP1030A. The 2m/440 antenna is a Comet vertical at 30 ft. 6m loop at 30ft. Cushcraft 6m beam at 70 ft and a Mosley TA33 tri-band beam at 65 ft for 10/15/20 meters. I also have an Alpha Delta DX-A sloper mounted on the tower for 160/80/40 meters. Mobile includes a Yaesu FTM-350R and Kenwood TS-480SAT in my Ford Super Duty, an 18 year old Powerwerx DB-750Xin my 3/4 ton Suburban.
I have been an officer in the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps for 10 years. I was an Instructor, Ensign, LT JG and now LT serving as the Executive Officer then Commanding Officer of the Cruiser Indianapolis (CA-35) Division. I also spent 27 years as a reserve Police Officer in Indiana and am enjoying my time away from it now but thankful for the experiences it gave me. I was a corporate photographer for many years with a large pharmaceutical company. I have owned photo studios in 2 different towns and now shoot American travel images for editorial, corporate and business use for several different photo agencies. I am also a Real Estate Broker with United Real Estate in Indianapolis, IN.
My wife and I live on a horse farm in rural Indiana and have 2 adult children who live in Chicago and on Hilton Head Island.
